What's Happening?

Well, so far recently we have been super busy!!!
Cupcake is getting adopted.. We met an amazing man recently who we have decided would be the best daddy for our little Cupcake!!! She is almost ready to go to her new home and we are all very excited..

As some of you have noticed on our website we have gotten in quite a few new dogs and a new cat and several others have been adopted..

We recently took in 4 dogs from the City of Albuquerque Shelter. We took in Casey, Harley, Milo, and Ashley.. Ashley is a little deaf girl who they really didn't think would be adopted, Casey is a big girl and seemed pretty shy in the kennel area and of course she is black (as most know black dogs don't get adopted easily), Harley failed a section of her temperament test (we still don't remember why though- she has proven to be perfect), and Milo was returned to the City of Albuquerque Shelter after being adopted from them a few months prior- due to his size (he is going to be a big boy).. So we brought them home, they have joined the pack, and there have been no issues at all..

We also have a couple dogs that we can't post yet but will as soon as we get the OK..

The cat we recently took in is a small kitten with no tail! My kids were walking home from the park and this kitten started following them!! They tried chasing him "home" but to no avail-- he went and laid in the street so of course they got scared and didn't want him to get run over so they brought him home.. After all, we are a rescue!!! So we talked to people in the area he was found and posted fliers and nothing.. So now he is up for adoption!! He is a very cute boy..

So those are a few newer dogs that we got in..

Boomer our foster we have had for over a year through Chihuahua Rescue has also found his forever home and is doing super!!! His new family love him to death!!

Schnitzel has also been adopted.. It is still a trial run though but we are hoping that they fall in love and it turns into a forever home..

So hopefully all of these babies will find their forever homes-but as Boomer shows when we make a commitment to these animals it is until they are adopted-- we never euthanize for space-- they just live at the property with us in our home until they find their forever home...

Other dogs needing help!!

Recently we have done several interviews with the media regarding a pup named Cupcake.. We think it is super that so many news stations would cover this one cute little girl and we were shocked at how many people have actually contacted us to give her a new home..

As I stated to the news personel we are holding onto her for at least 2 more months to ensure she is healthy..

What I do want to point out though is that we do have several other great dogs needing homes all with their own stories.. Most were supposed to be dead by now--many were out of time so we restarted the clock to try and give them all a second shot at happiness!!

We also want to point out the countless dogs in other rescues and in shelters that may not have very much time left or who have just been in rescue way to long!! These dogs also need forever homes..

I would love if everyone just stopped in to Valencia County Animal Shelter and take a look-- you will find sooo many other Cupcakes with horrible stories who desperately need homes.. Remember most dogs and cats in that shelter are euthanized after 72 hours!!! Now before you all get riled up and call the shelter yelling at the staff "How dare you"-- you need to realize how many animals they take in (a bunch- ove 100 a week) and how many kennels they actually have (not enough) and how much traffic they really get (very little).. So they do have a high euthanasia rate-- please save one of these dog's lives!!!

Then you have rescue dogs that have been in rescue way too long..

Please at least take a look at some of these wonderful dogs that are in this rescue!! Poor Spencer has been homeless for almost 4 years!!! e desperately need a home..
Rocky also is in desperate need of a home!! He was severely abused with a baseball bat!! He has shown some dog aggression however if you only want one dog he would be the best!! he is amazingly sweet.. PLease, please take a look at these 2 big boys!!

The brindle pit is Rocky- the 1st pic is Rocky with Sunny from Critter Connection, the second is also Rocky, and the thid is Spence a yellow Lab mix who has been in and out of rescue for 4 years!! THEY both need forever homes to call their own with families to show them the love they love.. Please contact Second Chance for these two dogs!!!

Supporters!!!

Wow the outpouring we have had recently from the public is amazing!!!
We have met some amazing people!!
I would like to share with you a few supporters we have recently had and what they have done..

First of course there is Sunny with MTD Radio who has done several interviews with us about Almost Home NM!! She is amazing and she has recently taken in a Pit Bull Terrier from the Valencia County Shelter through us who she is doing an amazing job at training to be an APBT Ambassador Dog!!! So far Miranda (the new dog in her pack) is amazing and proving to be the typical fast learner Pitts are known to be..

Pictures above are Sunny's babies-- playing tug, her little Canum who was supposed to be an ambassador but passed on after breaking with parvo after being rescued from a shelter, and Miranda sitting nicely for a stranger and receiving a cookie for good behavior..

Another supporter is an artist by the name of Christine Ford - Artist and Printmaker- Pet Portraits-Oil Equine and Wildlife Art Etchings and Mezzotints 505-450-9446 she not only made a donation -but is also doing a painting of Cupcake for the Canine Art Guild.. If it sells she will be donating all proceeds to Almost Home NM.. Thank you so much Christine!!!

These are 2 of Christine's beautiful pictures she has painted!!! Look at the eyes-- the detail is amazing!!

Another supporter we recently met is Lisa Berry and her husband who run Custom K9 Performance .. Lisa contacted us inquiring about Cupcake-- she also offered her time and expertise with ear cropping to help us get her ears healthy and standing as erect as possible and even offered discounts on training for our adopters. Lisa has some champion APBTs that do everything: agility, Schutzhund, weight pull, and I believe a couple even competed in herding (before the rule was made for only actual herding breeds were allowed to compete)!! We went over to her place and watched her dogs work and boy were they amazing!!! http://www.geocities.com/customk9performance/Home_page.htmlities.com/customk9performance/Home_page.html http://www.k9performancekennels.com/

Christmas 2006 Lisa's pack, Tempest (the blue) and Vixen (the fawn) working agility -- I got the pleasure of watching these two beautiful working dogs!! Wow!! Is all I can say about these amazing dogs!!!

Cupcake!!

OK!! Now Miss Cupcake!! You can see the news http://www.koat.com/news/17106196/detail.html
we were also on 4 and 13.. You can also go to the Valencia County News Bulletin to read the story of Cupcake..
Cupcake's right ear is badly infected.. So she is on antibiotics and we are keeping them clean and dry to ensure they heal..
She has proven to be the typical happy pit bull we love to have around and will make an amazing pet..
We have received numerous calls and e-mails from people wanting to adopt this sweet girl.. We are going to be holding on to her though for at least 2-3 months.. We do want to make sure that she is completely healed, socialized, and started on basic obedience before she heads on out to a new life that will hopefully make up for the pain she was put through at such a young age..
If you would like to be considered for her forever home please send us an e-mail requesting an application and we will get that out to you..
In the meantime please visit a local animal shelter and adopt a pet..

Pearl Update!!

Ok all Pearl went home recently!! She is doing great and gets along super with their big boy.. It was love at first site!! So she has a wonderful new home with people who are going to make up for her past and spoil her!!! So we are very excited.. I took some wonderful pictures of them when they came out so I will be posting a few of those very soon!!! We are stillt rying to pay off her huge vet bill so if you can spare even a few dollars please help us so we can get that paid off and we can continue our rescue work and help others like her.. You can click on any of the donate links and it will guide you through making a donation-- really every little bit helps!!!
So yeah for Pearl on her new home!!!!
